Love the pose and fish but the IQ just isn't there, big crop? A very granular appearance.

Dan this is what I am seeing on three different monitors, a soft granularity.
Not what I normally see in your shots. Maybe some posting oddity?

IQ is pretty good to my eye, looks sharp with good details. I thought it was a Caspian tern a first glance but the beak is too small for a Caspian yet it is too red for a Forster's tern...are you sure it's a Caspian?

Hi Colin I think your monitors are no good. I say this because every single time you post an image the IQ looks poor to me. You have a good camera and lens and I keep scratching my head how can the IQ be so bad. Have you ever sat down with someone else and gone over your shots?

the area of the wing looks completely natural to my eye at least, that's how a tern under wings look in flat light, if he had some direct sunlight on them it would have more micro-contrast but it is in the shade and looks totally natural. maybe a bit of noise there but I wouldn't call it poor IQ. what really matters is the head and the fish that are tack sharp.

A nice flight frame of this tern. The fish is a bonus. Looks like a caspian to me.

Dan, The image looks good to my eye as well. The exposure looks natural.
