    Default High ISO?

    Attached Images Attached Images

experimenting with the A9II high ISO files I got this image at ISO-8000. I usually don't like going beyond ISO-4K on FF bodies and ISO-2K on the high res. bodies but I found this image was more than acceptable given the poor light. It is a bit dark by design as the bird was shaded and sun was already down. I could brighten it but kept it like it was but perhaps should be brightened some

Shot with A9 II and 600 GM + TC 1.4X ISO-8000 f/5.6 at 1/2500 sec hand held. processed with C1P. I wish the feet and the top plumage of the killdeer where in focus but this is not possible unless the bird is perfectly parallel to the back of the camera, here only the head and the chest area are inside the DOF

    hope you like it

the image is about 10 mega pixel post cropping or about 42% of the 24 mega-pixel original full frame file BTW

overall the Sony A9 II high ISO performance is pretty good, it is similar to the D5 in terms of noise but it seems to have a bit more details and room for sharpening especially at these very high ISO's (I found the D5 to get a bit soft above ISO 4K). both are significantly better than the 1DX MK II which wasn't that great and a step back compared to the good old 1DX. haven't had a 1DX III to compare with. However because the Sony AF nails the focus pretty well and doesn't give occasional soft files like the DSLR's even in low light, the high ISO yield from this camera is higher especially when shooting BIF and moving subjects ...probably the best rain forest camera out there.

Hi Arash. Can't complain about iso 8000! How much NR (if any) did you need to use?
I've pretty much decided that the Nikon D500/500PF is my next purchase. Was heading into a local store to try out the combo, but they emailed me the night before to say it was sold! Still would like to try out that combo before purchasing though.
So...is the 1DX better than the 1DXii for high iso? I can get a secondhand one for a good price here, but then I still have the issue of a better lens than my 100-400 to equal the D500/500PF.

Pretty nice, Arash. Looks good, no nits here. But you are the master of post processing I wonder if another could do as well. Perfect exposure in the field and excellent post processing. Thank you for sharing.

Looks great for ISO 8000. What program are you using for NR?
I am in love with Topaz Denoise AI. Have you tried it?
    Nice low POV,

Noise wise it looks great. I don't mind the darker feel to this. When you see birds in low light this is what it looks like. Nice pose.
