Default Baby Week - Day 3 - Mini Mallard

Well, I was going to post a couple more babies this week but I'll stop here. Just a simple Mallard chick but I get good vibes when I look at this so thought it's worth sharing.

Note - I masked lit feathers on top of the head so they are as close to raw as possible, to avoid over sharpening (it almost appeared crunchy to me but all you see is 149/.8 in C1). Also, the feathers under the chin are that way in the RAW, not a cloning issue or cut out. Got enough of the right foot to make me happy.

Cleaned up some little plants popping up in the water and touched the eye in the reflection a bit with a clone from the next image in the series. Minor land clean up. I know IQ is just hanging on, please fire away....

Just wish there wasn't the darks from the shore above and behind. Otherwise, this is a cute shot. You're sure putting that new lens to good use. TFS.

It is cute, that is for certain, and it's got an eye on you! I love the green water and the "painted" streaks in it. I agree with jay about the muddy shore, but that's where this little fella lives at times, eh. I do like the bit of vegetation. Sharpening again looks fine from my end.

IQ is pretty good so is the light, the shoreline wasn't ideal here, it is distracting especially the part above the bird but the water was nice

Before reading your post comments, I thought wow, what a great job at sharpening this downy beauty. Reading your comments just showed how nuanced that sharpening process was. I truly love every inch of this canvas. TFS

Jay - for sure and thanks. The 600mm has been a much appreciated addition for me. Congrats on your new equipment as well!
Daniel - one of my favorite aspects of this one as well was the water. Thanks for the bank notes (Jay also)
    Ari - thanks my friend
David - appreciate you noting the sharpening as well as the comments. Glad you enjoy this one too!

Nice frame Brian....Love the detail on the chick and sharpened well. the only thing I would change IMO would be to desaturate the greens a wee bit.

I am late to the party Brian but agree with the suggestions above.
Nice light, good exposure, good POV.
The chick itself is great. Great details, sharpness spot on.
That shoreline is the problem but all else good.

I like it. Cute for sure. You photographed the bird where i usually see them. I don't mind the setting here.
