From Magee Marsh in May, 2017. Ran NR and slightly reduced contrast on BG, but no blurring. Slight Tonal Contrast on bird and perch. This is typical setting for wood warblers in the field; but for those who like less cluttered BG see next pane.

    D500, 500f4 + 1.4 TC, ISO 2500, 1/1000s @ f/6.3 manual.

Here's a version with Gaussian blur on the BG. Graphically simpler, but less accurate.

Bill the bird in the first one looks weird and has some jagged edges and color artifacts around the back of neck and head. Better in the repost, not sure what's up?

Feels like maybe the IQ is struggling here again to my eyes.

Ari says we're not supposed to use Gaussian blur on the photos but the bkg looks way better to me. Don't know if the avg onlooker would ever have any idea... heck, I probably wouldn't

I like the OP and the way the perch is framed including the those two leaf sprouts for balance. TFS

I would take either version. Yes the second version is much cleaner in the background. Nice pose on the bird. Also like how the branch frames the bird. The crop works very well.

Ain't she sweet. Beautiful soft light, nice eye contact, and I'm partial to the original post showing a more natural environment.

I have no idea how you achieved the cloning/background effect you did. It looks amazing. I would never have guess is was so heavily manipulated.

Colors, sharpness, and perch all look good. You got the feet in nice sharp focus, and that's really important for me since you couldn't get the tail. Head angle isn't ideal but still works.
