Last Saturday at Nickerson, we had fun watching these herring gulls dropping clams from a height in order to get them open. They also had to watch for other birds ready to snatch the clams away once they hit the ground.

Neat pose by the gull, and I like the visible feet. A slight contrast boost would give this image some needed punch. Interesting techs...you could lower the ISO and open up the aperture (although the 40D can handle it and the result looks good for web presentation).

Beth nice behavioral image here. Keeping the clam and bird in focus really makes this capture. Others may comment on the ring wing being too close to the head but I'd be pleased with this one if it were mine.

I like the composition, pose and eye contact. The mussel adds to it, makes it look like a chase. :)

    Hi Beth,
Great timing indeed! The position of the clam close to the body....does make it look like he is chasing it! Tail feathers up and a hint of the feet also add to the overall presentation! Very well done!

Oh this is super! I might do a multiply layer on some of the whites and boost the yellow in the eye & bill a little, but that is just my taste. Great action for sure.
