Default Common Yellowthroat in the Reeds

Yesterday was in the marsh full of heat shimmers waiting on Harriers when this handsome fella surprised me. I had never seen a Common Yellowthroat before.

While it may seem like he is small in the frame, I chose to leave it at this crop level because they are so tiny and it represented how I remember him in the tall reeds. And I debated on the right stick but chose to leave it for perspective and framing.

    600mm f4e + TC-14e
    HH
    ISO 1100
    1/3200
    f5.6

Processed in C1P and PS. Normal stuff, warmed up (flat light) and removed some reeds to clean up in PS. ~ 55% crop for aesthetic.

This is very pretty Brian. Your comp is excellent and I am glad you left the reed on the right in the image.
The image feels a bit flat and I would do a curves adjustment to make the blacks and neytrals pop a bit more. Basically, go to curves and pull the left side of line down to create an "S",

Hi Brian, beautiful little bird. Love the image, nice composition. I might have cleaned up the edges of the second reed/stem. Thank you for sharing.

Classic Yellowthroat pose on reeds. Nicely captured. Gail's suggestion might give it just a bit more pop, although it's well presented here. I like your comp and understand your reasoning; but my personal preference might have been to crop just a bit tighter from top and left, to move the bird up in the frame a little closer to the UL ROT position.

The colors make this alone. Love the composition and canvas overall. Would also make a nice vertical. Super well seen and executed, my friend. TFS

The bird stands out nicely against all that muted color. I would crop some more from the left if the image quality will hold up.

Gail, thanks a lot. I actually built a curves mask on this one and had the S prior to your suggestion.

Here are the adjustments I had made. Guess I was on the right track anyway.... maybe just more? Hesitant to overdo images anymore....

Here is one with more S curve and minor crop tweak:

    Hi Brian,
I don't see that much difference on the repost. I would just add a bit more curve to the "S' on the bottom third of threcurve and leave the top thirs as you had it originally!

Thanks Gail. I did lower the bottom but I only did it on the mids. Are you suggesting perhaps a curves adjust on the whole bird?
