Default Least Tern landing at ne

    Attached Images Attached Images

This image was created on 26 MAY 2020 at Fort DeSoto. I used the Induro GIT 304L/FlexShooter Pro-mounted Sony FE 600mm f/4 GM OSS lens, Sony FE 1.4x teleconverter, and the blazingly fast AF King, the Sony Alpha a9 II Mirrorless Digital Camera Body. ISO 640. Exposure determined by Zebras with ISO on the rear dial: 1/2500 sec. at f/5.6 in Manual mode. AWB at 7:26pm with the sun going in and out. Center Zone AF-C was active at the moment of exposure and performed beyond perfection (even as seen here with backgrounds other than sky).

I tried a new AF technique that performed amazingly well. To learn lots more about the creation of this image see the Not in the Least: the Fort DeSoto Least Tern Colony. Plus an Astounding 600mm f/4 AF Tip ... blog post here.

As for the image, all comments are welcome and appreciated.

Love the light, the pose, the BG and the composition for a perfect canvas overall. TFS

    Artie:

Soft light and background, nice full up wing position.

Really looks like the Sony gear is doing the job for you. (But I suspect you would create good pictures with an Instamatic!)

    Cheers

Beautiful posture with the wings up. The background makes the bird stand out and I like the catchlight in the eye.

Thanks, Randy. A guy on a workshop once said to me, "You could make a good natural history image in an empty mop closet."

looking pretty good, tack sharp with good wing positions and sweet light, least tern is one of my favorites. I would run NR on the BG

Beautiful light and great BG and nice wing position.
Agree on a bit more NR, but just a bit- don't want it too smooth and unnatural,

Hey Artie, sorry I am a little late to the party but yesterday I was assembling a new gas grill. Lovely image, wing position, background, feather detail and colors all wonderful. Thank you for sharing.

Beautiful flight shot of a very tough tern to catch in flight. AF trick did the trick. Yes to a tad of NR on the BG; otherwise just about perfect.

Nice framing and light. The green background is spot on.
