    Default Skimmer Cuddle

Here's one from Nickerson last August. I had been trying to shoot Black Skimmer aerial skirmish action, thus the high SS. When I lay down to take some shots of this static subject I should have had enough sense to dial back the SS and ISO, since the latter caused some issues with the image. But I still like the shot.

I'd take this in a heartbeat. Most important, great view of all three eyes and I love the vegetation for balance. Really loving this sweet canvas and I bet you remember next chance. TFS

Way too cute. Your excellent post work looks to have nicely compensated for the high ISO and SS. Great catching the highlights in the eyes and clear horizon in the parent.

A lovely moment for sure. Like the little one tucked under. The beach vegetaion is a nice plus. Image quality is alright. Better than nothing.

Super cute! The close-crop works really well here, and the tiny tuft of vegetation adds some nice context to the setting. Catchlights in all 3 eyes is impressive. Heavy vegetation made obtaining something similar impossible
on my only Nickerson visit, so I am envious of this one, Bill.

    Really a fine shot Bill!

I am just curious if you filled the frame and cut the tail of the mature bird for aesthetics or just cropped it that way for proper breathing room? I like it as is, just wondering

Thank you all for your comments.

Brian, I had several frames where the entire adult was included. (Here's one: http://www.birdphotographers.net/for...mmer%2C+chicks); but for this one I centered on the chicks and cut the tail off the adult, so I cropped just a bit tighter (leaving the grass) to put more emphasis on the chicks.

    Bill:

The family 'stack' is really cute here. I missed the bottom chick on first glance, fun when he popped out at me.

We have all been caught out by needing to change settings, but you handled it well.

    Cheers

    Makes sense, thanks
