I like the attempt at something different but think you need more light coming directly through the bird - i.e. rim light - for this to work. It's a bummer we can't see the contour/shape of the bird's head or back.

Indeed Jon, but it's just isn't working for me. I quite like the angle of the log and the woody being upside down, but that sadly is as far as it goes, sorry. I was hoping there would be a bit more rim light and overall my gut feeling says it needs to be warmer rather than cooler. The cloning needs a total revisit. Should the light be from behind, again I think it's coming from the top RHC.

It has potential, but I would start with where the light comes from, then move the log according to when you want to shoot and more importantly the light delivers what you want. EV -2/3, I think its more between - 1-2?

Love the pose and the perch. Coming out of the dark adds drama for me. The wingtip light is way cool. I like it but wish the one twig/branch shadow on the breast wasn't there. TFS

    I like it...different.
The muddled BG on the right could be fixed.

Different for sure. I kinda like this one. Almost has a mood to it.
