    Default Grey Ghost incoming

Still weeding out old files and coming across quite a few that I had never processed. (Often for good reason, but you be the judge.) This Male Northern Harrier was most cooperative in February of 2019. He was back again this past winter, but not nearly as cooperative, at least not for me.

I don't know why you never showed this one before .....Looks good here... I'm thinking you never processed this because it is a big crop.....I would be more than happy with this, what a great pose and the BG, shows the bird well. I may try sharpening the face more.

Thanks Will. Pretty big crop. This is about 27% of the original pixel count; width is 57% of original. I did one version with just a bit more sharpening on the face and feared it was starting to look crunchy.

Image qulaity looks pretty good for the large crop. The background makes the bird stand out very well.

Agree about this beauty popping off the BG and big crop or not the painterly feel and that intense stare. TFS

IQ is good enough, getting that stare from one is so good, I can put up with a lot of technical issues...

Excellent IQ considering the large crop! Although I'm sure you'd love to get this while being closer. Good job on the composition. I love the intense stare too. I'm wondering if you did some masking around the wingtips, or that is just the light creating a "cutout" look around there?

Thanks Daniel. I did select the entire bird, wingtips included, so I could run a heavy dose of NR on the very noisy BG. If you are referring to the white leading edges of the wingtips, that shows on the RAW, and on many other shots of this and other Grey Ghosts. If you are referring to what may be an overly crisp edge to the wingtips, it may be that I should have feathered my selection just a few points more.

I think the IQ is good, irrespective of the heavy crop! I would be thrilled with this image. Love the stare and steely background. The crop works as is but could be expanded to give a more room above and below, especially is the rest of the
frame is as clean as what you show here. The fanned primaries are really sweet.

Thank you all for your comments. Dorian, I debated whether to give him some more room, but slavishly stayed with a traditional 16:9 pano format. Probably should add a bit top and bottom.

love the incoming pose and the intense stare! IQ is pretty good for the crop and it stands out nicely against the dark BG
