    The Goliath Heron (Ardea goliath) is the world's largest living heron. A native of sub-Saharan Africa, he stands at up to 6 feet tall, with a wingspan up to 7.5 feet. This one was photographed near Little Vumbura camp in Botswana, in 2018.

    D500, Sigma 150-600C @ 550 mm, ISO 3200, 1/1000s @ f/6.3 manual. Shot from vehicle.

    Beautifully done. Did you think about losing the odd head feather?

    Did you see any larger dead ones???

    Thanks Artie. I did consider evicting the feather but decided against it. The only larger heron was the Bennu Heron, but he is now extinct and no, I didn't see one.

    Great title. Like the profile pose. Very good display of his feather patterns and colors. Like the slightly open beak also.

    Love your title!
    Greta bird and shows the habitat well.
    I have photographed giant herons as well and they are so big. I found myself wishing there was a way to show how huge they are.
    I might reduce the blues in the grey feathers a bit.
    Love the wispy feathers and glad you kept them

    Sounds like an impressive heron. I like the title. The setting is nice. Quite different from the usual heron in/by water.
