This is quite nice. I've tried many times to get my Red-bellied WPs coming in for a landing, but never managed to get it right. This looks good to me, in focus and with a lovely BG.

Jon:
Agree with Bill, very nice flared landing pose, with good background. Well done, not an easy shot.
Cheers

Wow. you got the head and claws sharp, enough for me.
By far, your best backyard BIF.
Did you use noise reduction on the background?

Jonathan, for me better than the last for sure. Well done!
It appears the sun was just trying to crack through overcast skies?

Thanks for the positive comments everyone, much appreciated.
Dan minimal NR applied to the whole image, just so there was still a hint of texture. Brian yes that's precisely the lighting conditions you described.
Now the next project is to get a lateral view in flight.

I'm glad you upped the SS as discussed Jon. My only thought perhaps is to darken the BKG a fraction so there is a bit more tonal range and separation, but just a thought. Saw someone else doing small birds and using a bird bath, however the flight shots of bedraggled birds looks.....

Good idea, I have more similar images.
For anyone interested you may wish to look at this image and one or two to follow, you will see similar poses and how I managed to influence the flight path in order to get in focus images. Take a peep at the location of the buttercups in the background in relation to the bird for reference.

Jon is this start-stop shooting and picking the frame, or just a burst, as I'm racking up the actuations currently.

Steve this is using Procapture High, fixed focus 60fps but electronic shutter not mechanical so no wear and tear. Procature Low is 18fps and with AF.
(The mechanical shutter is guaranteed for 500,000 actualtions)
