OK, so back home briefly so here is the Red-legged partridge 'processed'. This was shot whilst waiting and observing the Little owls, this wee fellow came incredible close to the bag hide, so with minimal movement and set to mirrorless I managed to get some images of this rather shy game bird. They do have a slight 'blue' tinge to the chest feathers.

Thanks to those who viewed or commented on the previous posting.

    Subject: Red-legged partridge (Alectoris rufa)
    Location: UK
    Camera: Canon EOS-1DX MKIII
Lens: EF500mm f/4L IS II USM
    Exposure: 1/800s at f/8 ISO1600
Original format: Portrait, very slight crop from above
Processed via: LRCC Classic & PSCC2020

Note: The subject is fully wild and completely unconstrained. Besides the potential impact of my presence, nothing has been done to intentionally alter or affect the ongoing behavior of the subject and, of course, there has been no use of any form of bait or other form of wildlife attractants (including vocalisations) in the capture of this image.

Exposure and colours look spot onto me. Detail is excellent.

Cheers Jon, yes I'am somewhat surprise just how 'pin sharp' the MKIII is from straight out of the box, as I have not taken it back to Canon, as the past six bodies from the MKIV to the 1DX MKII's have all had to be calibrated, but with the extenders I will pop it back.

Excellent, Barney seems to be your lucky mascot, now to find some Truffles on your walks. Thought I would add this into the mix, personally I think the colours etc are very reflective, but I know some folk like more 'vibrant' colours and so there is a choice.

Hi Steve ... a nice " grab shot" while sweating under the hide .
IQ looks good as presented ... second post for me in terms of color . Really nice to see the fine tonal transitions .... I would call this a reference file , folks .

Only thing I am not 100 % sure is the comp , as I think there should be space to the right for my taste .

And surprised to see the slow SS ....

    Very nice Steve

Agree Andreas, it's crying out to go Landscape with that HA, but no chance of rotating the lens as these subjects are spuer spooky and so had to go with the flow sadly.

Solid portrait. Like the pose and the stretched out neck.

Steve I looked at this earlier this morning and that was my first thought it looked a little flat.I was looking at the details and colors and my thought was great perfect. The more I looked at it I appreciated. The second version is nice too.Great fine details and the eye ring. I would be happy with either even though I probably like the re post better.
Thanks for the suggestions on the Jay I did re post.

I certainly like the second version more. Great colors and detail. I agree that the composition is tight on the RHS, but I appreciate the difficulty of changing the image orientation in that situation.

Never seen one of them for a few years Steve. Used to get them in the same area as I get the Red Grouse..but they've disappeared .. The second image is looking better on my monitor. Lovely detail and the colours are really nice, spot on...And yes to more room RHS.
