    Default Great crested grebes

    Hi all,

A pair of Great crested grebes in New Zealand from a couple of years back. I was hoping to get another crack at these guys this winter, but I have a feeling that trip won't be happening -- oh well, such is life -- hope everyone is staying safe, sane, and healthy. Minor edits in post, some NR, cropped to about 65% of the original.

Thanks for looking and commenting on prior posts!

I think the birds and the water they are in looks terrific, nice poses on both and creamy water.
The stark shift to the dark BG is pretty abrupt for me, I sort of like it and sort of don't..
    Interesting to hear other opinions.
    Very nice IQ.

very nice to get the parent and youngster in one frame. both with a good HA, soft light was nice, I also find the shoreline a bit distracting but at least it doesn't intersect with the birds

Striking shot of both birds with full hairdos. I don't mind the green upper bg, but would have been nice without it too.

Looks right on all around. Nice pose on both birds. Nice view of those crests as well.

Lovely direct stares from two subject, bravo! They work wonderfully with the high key lighting. Shoreline isn't ideal, but you were trapped by pond circumstances. You did well to get super low, but the water wasn't expansive enough to be rid
of the shoreline. Still a very nice frame though.
