    Default Gnatcatcher

    Hi all,

Gnatcatcher on nest. It was such a pleasure to watch a pair of gnatcatchers work on their nest -- they were so meticulous with the process. Some NR, overall minimal edits in post. I left the spiderweb on the side of the bird as thats some of their nesting material (that and lichen mostly).

sweet view of the nest I like how the nest is tucked in between the tree trunks, in a perfect world the RHS branch wouldn't be there but all else is neat

Wonderful capture of this proud nest builder, Alex. You were very lucky to see the precise nest builders at work. Wasn't it amazing also how they get completely into the nest as they were constructing, to size it with their body. Like that you left the spiderweb strand.

Really cool view of this small beauty. Love the open beak and I'd leave the tail as is. The perspective makes this beauty seem larger and I like it. TFS

A fine image Alex, I like the nest and the positioning between the branches. Good detail and exposure.

Gnatcatchers do have long tails - I'd leave it in for sure. Nice to see one on its' nest - I hope it stays as this species is notorious for abandoning nests. Very sharp on the face, and although the branches are large they are beautifully textured and weathered. Good frame!

Sweet frame, bird is sharp... With a screen scroll I think some off the top looks good.

Thanks all, much appreciated. Dan, looking at the scroll crop, I agree that could work well too. I'll look at that on the master file. Thanks again,

Great view of this nest. Like the framing and the light. Like the lichen on the branches. Nice and sharp.

I am very very late to the party but really like this image. Love how the bird is framed between the branches.
I wish for a bit more DOF so that the beautiful lichens on the nest were sharper,
    Gail
