Shot in Rio Grande Valley Tx in February.Set up using food, have never really used perches and learned a valuable lesson the perch and background have to look good or it takes away from the photo. This was my favorite perch.Warmed the photo up some was a really gloomy windy morning and had some luck with the slow shutter and birds didn't come in. This was the only bird and didn't stay long.Shot in landscape profile cropped vertical.Processed with Dpp 4,Photoshop,neat image. Comments and critiques appreciated.

I like the pose and the topside view, the shoulder area is a touch too bright and I'd back off a bit on sharpening. I like the perch too

Great pose and perch. I agree with Arash's critique on bright shoulder area and backing off the sharpening. Nice colors here. I might also add some more NR to the BG. Also may drop the HLs across the frame overall. Would love to photograph this species. TFS

Lovely bird and super perch (I like the perforations and the textures) RP is spot on with wonderful detail and sharpness.

Looks great. What a perch. Perfect look-back pose too. Repost even better. If anything I'd apply some NR to the BG.

Hi Kevin, I'm realy surprised what you achieved at 1/80, why such a slow SS?

Agree that the OP was oversharp and the image is bright in terms of exposure, but if you use the HSL panel you will find that it helps bring back a lot of the richness in the overall colour and gives a bit more depth to the plumage, as even the RP appears a bit flat too. I'd loose the little bit of wood jutting out on the RHS.

Steve I was using the HSL slider quite a bit previously but I think it was contributing to my color cast problems that you mentioned in previous posts. I will go back and give it another shot. Thanks again for the suggestions and am using the curves adjustment now in PS. I think it has helped with my overall images.
Oh and as for the slow shutter speed it was a really gloomy dark morning. I have used higher ISO with the Mark 1V even 5000 and did alright but also had images at 3200 ISO that just didn't turn out so I really hated going over 2500. Seems like I was consumed with the ISO numbers on the Mark 1V.

Hi Kevin, any suggestion I make it's aways after I have tried it, in that way I know it will work, or a combination, but as you can appreciate working on the hi res Tiff will offer greater results, or the Raw and exporting that as a layer. This RP may help to a degree. Note I did remove the two small off shoots of bark.

Agreed, the MKIV is no where near the 1DX's and yes I too feel 3200 is about right, albeit 5000 has also delivered for me. There are times where you can under exposure knowing how you will PP the file, as lifting an image in PP can sometimes be better as you have a better Dynamic range, but it's trade offs and you need to be clear, no your file and where you need to go in the PP process.

I like it. The tail does look kinda odd. Nice call on the vertical framing.

Hi Kevin, you have it all there, just keep things simple when you process, don’t make it complicated for yourself. Do the basics in the Raw converter, then use PS to refine your adjustments.
