Hahahahhahaha.... well Jon I just like this a lot !!!!
At least I do have no concern about angle etc .... lovely mottled BG .

What I would change is the sharpening and the blacks/ contrast in the head area . The head does look slightly coarse and the blacks are masking potential details .Just check the cyan/ blue in the shadow created by the mealworm/bill .

I really love your series ....

This is superb Jon, love the awkward flight pose, the wing spread and the head on pose. The worm is a bonus. Wonderful!

Pretty darn good! Love the worm in the mouth and the wing position.
Nice and sharp and a great BG.
    Great look at the eye.
Would love this one in my files,
    Gail

I like it Jon, but best put DoF (in old money) in brackets.

Heading back tomorrow, so all being well I will pick up the stuff you sent tomorrow.

Thanks for the feedback, glad you liked it. Once you have the idea sorted in your mind you can then modify circumstances to maximise success. Insects, well that's a different story - much more difficult.

super pose Jon, I'd back off sharpening on the head, I think it looks a bit coarse from the harsh light (judging from the shadow must be pretty late in the morning) if it is a setup you can just enjoy a few glasses of scotch and wait while the sun goes down until it is behind your neck (while holding on to the bugs) ;)
