Hi folks ... mother nature gave me a great option to get this kind of shot , very similar to the Grey Seal I posted recently .

This time it happened in South Africa in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park during my great trip with my friends Gabriela and Andre ( RIP my friend ) in 2014 . One of my favorite trips I ever made in terms of fun with people .... will never forget the great time with them !!!!
This image was taken during the hot time of the day , while waiting at waterhole for action . All of a sudden strong wind came and blew lots of dust up into the air ... then this Red Hartebeest appeared in this dust wall , so i quickly took a couple of shots ..... hoping the AF would find something to lock on . It worked .... almost .... LOL .

A wonderful shot Andreas. The concept worked well and you made the best of the opportunity provided by nature.

I like the concept Andreas, just wished it was sharper.

THanks Sanjeev and Steve for your comments .

Steve actually there was nothing to lock on for the AF ... I really pushed the Hartebeest in terms of tone , so you can image how light it was in the original capture . There was a light wall of dust and the head just peeped through .... but fully agree with you about the sharpness !!!!
    Still like it though

As AF works on contrast, focusing on a very dark subject may have thrown the AF and with all that dust... Be interesting to see how well the MK3 does with 'heat haze'!

The biggest issue was from my POV ... there was no contrast as the dark subject was barely visible ... comparable to dense fog

Something a little different, I like the image (but again it is a little tall for my monitor... there must be some big monitors out there!)

Love the mood and the idea behind this one.
