If this would be mine .... I might change the WB , look for something neutral and then adjust the color balance . To me the whites can go overall brighter without blowing them ...IMHO . As the whites do look " dirty" .... not as clean as this bird will look in real life .
Just for my interest ... what are you doing with your images in terms of sharpening ?? There are some very funky artifacts above the top of the head .... never seen such artifacts in my raw files .... must be from something , well you should know .
Ditto Andreas on all counts. There is a noticeable black outline on the top of the head.
with love, artie

First and foremost, thanks for the valued inputs, my friend. I must have been very groggy last night as I believe I over thought and over did the processing. I believe I pulled back the brightness and then the highlight sliders in DPP from looking at the TIF. I also believe I did a WB adjustment on an image that didn't need it (not sure since I'm partially color blind). This was taken more than an hour after sunrise and the R handles AWB fine in good light. The whole thing looks over sharpened to me but I lassoed and did another round in the area above the eye. So, this time started from scratch, no WB in DPP, actually pulled brightness one tick to the right to get a few close to the limit (255) pixels and left it at that. In PS ran one round of NI on BG ( really didn't need it, but it didn't hurt). Converted to JPG and sharpened for web ONCE. Any better?
Thanks, gents, for those eagle eyes and your valued inputs. Always very welcome...

Where are this kind of artifacts coming from ??? Just for my interest what are you doing to your images , that effect is not coming from DPP as there is no thing than can create such things within DPP .

Hi Anfreas, I answered in the repost below. First I think I over sharped in general. Then I lassoed (selected the area above the eye) and sharpened further. I believe that is what caused the artifact. Did you see the repost? Perhaps we were ending at same time.
David ... looks better in RP overall , still are interested about the artifacts , which sharpening method are you using to create such things ???? Whatever it is , I would stay away from that method .... does not look good IMHO . Albeit you are trying to hide it .... eagle eyes will pick such things up .
Sorry, my man, didn't quite get your question. The method was smart sharpen. The problem was I went too far with another pass in that area. Does that answer it? I don't remember the exact setting but I believe it was 100, .6 with both passes. The lasso included the area above the eye and BG in that area. No secrets here...
ps
Yes, love those eagle eyes of yours, but a mole rat could have spotted the problems in the OP...

I like the colours in the repost, composition good, 100 & 0.6 sounds rather coarse for a final sharpen to me, if that was at the posted size. You said you lassoed the subject, I would suggest try Select> "select subject" followed by Select >"select and mask", you will have much more control.
