It was early morning on St Lucia or the very end of nite, the beach practically deserted except for this highly focused fisherman. As the Yellow-crowned Nite Heron stared towards the water, I could cozy up behind him getting all the way to the minimum focus distance. That's when he turned around and I had one chance and one chance only to grab this. Of course I'd been trying for days earlier so exposure was known. I don't always get to see the yellow crown. LR, PS, Nik, and Topaz DeNoise all used. I've really appreciated the comments and insights you have offered. I'll spread mine cautiously in return but they're coming.

    Dave:

Handsome bird, nice head angle, crest shows nicely. Great eye, nice subject isolation.. It sounds like you had little time to do the actual shot, but the clipped legs are an issue. Sometimes it pays to shoot a bit looser to reduce this from happening.

I would also recommend posting the image larger, allows for a better critique. You can post up to 1920 either vertically or horizontally, with max. file size of 600 kb. I usually shoot for around 1600 horizontally or 1200 vertically, depending on the image .

    Look forward to more.

    Cheers

Lovely bird. Nice view of this adult. Agree with Randy on this one.

Beautiful colors and details. Exp looks good as well. A little lower POV and vertical composition to include feet and this would be da bomb. TFS

If this if FF, the iso is not bad, exposure looks pretty good.
Try a 4X5 tight portrait crop, see what happens.

Randy, I have only myself to blame! There I go an purchase a zoom telephoto lens and don't have the sense enough to use it when I should! Well, hopefully I've learned my lesson, that along with exporting guidance. Thanks for both! Dave
