    Default Hawfinch

Hi everyone, hope all is well!

I was able to tick off another dream bird for me yesterday. This is a male Hawfinch, such a cool bird with that gigantic beak. In Sweden this is a very difficult bird to photograph as they are exclusively in the canopy and very skittish. I worked on a feeder in an area where I knew they were abundant and set up a perch for them to get used to. Yesterday I waited for three hours and got 30 seconds of birds on the perch. Great session though! Hopefully I can continue to work this spot for a few weeks.

    All comments welcome!

Wow. Wish the whole perch is plane of focus but bird is terrific.

A sweet image Ivan with gorgeous colours. Perhaps a tad more below if you have it? Did you slightly 'lift' (lighten) the image. Good luck, hope to see more.

Very cool looking bird. Like that touch of blue on this one. Neat lichen encrusted perch. Solid pose and background as well.

    Thanks for the inputs everyone!

Steve: I did lift the exposure by about 0,10 and the shadows by a bit. Also increased the intensity somewhat. Good point regarding the composition, I have a little more room on the bottom. My first version of this frame had more room but I felt that it created to much empty space on the left. It was a balance act and I ended up likeying this version more.

Dan: I agree that it would have been better if the right end of the perch was in focus. I might have another frame where I had time to change the settings.

Thanks Ivan, 0.10 is nothing, probably hard to see any change, as a result I might have left it at 0.00, but looks good either way.

Beautiful bird, similar in shape to our Evening Grosbeaks. I love the funky dark blue primary feather. I like everything except for the abrupt fallout of dof on the perch. Glad you got a good session of a dream bird!
