    Default Short-billed Dowitcher

While I am usually looking to get the wings in the full upstroke or downstroke, I'm really happy with this mid-stroke pose because
it shows how aerodynamic this species is. I like how the wings are staggered but aligned at this aligned. I think the head protrudes
just enough for engagement, and I think the recently-molted breeding rufous helps overcome the flat light.

Processed in LR CC. Bit of extra light added to birds face relative to everything
else. Luminosity dropped in blue channel to combat glare on water.

Those wings almost look like a hawk in a dive. This works for me. TFS

Is really a nice "pose" I think. A small torpedo.

good catch I like the sharp details but agree with self critique, the wing position is so so. The image has blue cyan color cast on my screen

Can only Echo Arash's comments, a tad of Temp and up the Magenta in the Tint slider will address things nicely.

Hey Dorian, nice flight image of a speedster. I appears and your description of flat light confirms that it was a overcast day. I agree with Arash's and Steve's comments regarding the blue cyan cast. Thank you for sharing.

Hi Dorian ... i am with you about the wing position , like it as presented .
Nice clean shot with good tone and color range in the subject , the cast is matter of taste . In this case I am fine with it ..... otherwise the water might end up too neutral .

Thanks for the comments. As I don't do much flat light shooting, so I'm not well versed in getting the temperature right. Cheers!

Lovely flight frame. Pose is dead on. I like the diffused light gives some nice even detail.

I really like the pose. Gives the viewer a great feeling for the speed these guys fly at.
Repost looks good but I have to say I was OK with the OP until I saw the repost.

He he, flat light is my favorite condition (apart from sunrise and sunset light), contrary to most I agree about the wing position, which deducts a point from the final score, but I also agree the pose still works well enough on the whole. The repost looks better to my eye too. I wish the shorebirds would give me nice flight chances like this up here - they keep to the ground 99% of the time, or fly as small flocks way too far away!

I have the opposite problem here. There is nowhere to get low on shorebirds near home; the front beach is populated and of the wrong pitch and the bayshore mud is SO soft one sinks right into it at first step. I've resorted
to flight work as my only recourse. The kayak is another way to get away from people. I have to work so hard for shots around here, especially since I am in an apt with no backyard to do set-ups. Sucks......

Can't belive I missed this fram earlier!

Very nice shot Dorain. I have no problem with the wing position. Exactly like you said I think it shows the species aerodynamic shape and the head it pretruding enough.
Other than that you have nice details, great exposre and comp. Well done including some waves that are in focus to create depth.
Colors have been nicely adressed in the repost!
