These guys love shelled peanuts, and if you are lucky to have a spot where they are more-or-less habituated to people you may get some fun close-up opportunities by offering them these loved treats.

Canon 7DII + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4TC III, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/640s., f/8, ISO 800, FF, eye work, a few of the more annoying snow specks removed from the plumage.

Incredible detail in shadows highlights and mid tones, sharpened to perfection with all those fine feathers. Love the high key treatment and hint of snow. Do I need to mention that eye. TFS

Nice closeup.. I might try PS dehaze on the eye Just for fun, a feature I
have used on landscapes only, adds noise but you could clear that up...

Hi Daniel a lovely portrait for sure . Nice details showing up and the tonal range is stunning ....just surprised to see the DOF fading that quickly at F 8 . Have you been that close ?

    Nice one and TFS Andreas

Dan ... no idea why you state that Dehaze ( ACR Filter in PS ) does add noise .... , in fact it does amplify existing noise !!!! As all contrast changes are doing !!!! So no special effect or special side effect from this filter .... in the end this filter is only adding contrast , nothing more or less . Just with a different algorithm behind it .... so no sensation whatsoever .

Hi Dan, I like the Blue Jay against the white background. It shows off the colors of the bird well. The hazy part of the eye appears to be the nictitating membrane. Thank you for sharing.

Lovely portrait of this blue jay. The framing is right on as well. Nice detail and sharpness.

Looking good Dan...I wished we got these Jays. Looks cold, feels cold and the detail and colours on the bird look cool. Love the HA

Envious of this because 1) I love headshots and 2) I never managed anything of this bird when I lived in Boston. It was early in my photo days and I could never find a good spot to lure them close.

As to the image, the color and high key are money, and the snow on the head/beak adds the perfect amount of context. I only wish for the slightest bit more head turn, but that's relatively
minor against the perfect exposure and detail.
