    EOS R EF 400 DO I 1.4xtc II f8 1/6400 ISO 800

Just a few short weeks ago, I planned a visit back to this spot (Bunche Beach Preserve). Covid19 had something to say about that. I was excited to apply what I have learned since then (especially working in full Manual mode(this image was created in aperture priority with EXP compensation)). It is amazing how much I'm still learning about this body and PP. Around the same time frame when I created this image I learned from a wood stork post (Thanks to Ari and Jonathan's help) that the DPP setting's for noise reduction recommended by Artie and Ari (in their wonderful DPP guide) for the 5DmkIV (no EOS R at the time the guide was created) were more destructive for the EOS R. Especially in those subtle whites. So here is an old image applying yet another just learned technique in DPP to coax even a little more detail out of the whites. I was reading a detailed technical review of the new RF 70-200m lens. The reviewer mentioned, for the purpose of accurate measurements the sharpening was set to 0 in DPP. Reason being even 1 point of sharpening can destroy fine detail. So I processed with 0 sharpening in DPP just to try. Of course the biggest improvement will be from continued practice on EXP in manual mode.
I wish I had been in vertical for the full virtual legs. This beauty had just come out of a vigorous shake and this is a frame from that burst. Cropped from horizontal.

As always, I am ever thankful for valued critiques, comments and discussions. Please keep them coming.

Like the light brings out the texture in those feathers nicely. I would sharpen the head a little more. Framing looks nice.

Hi David ... nice one . Good tones and overall color .... the hue of the blues , well a matter of taste !!

Interesting to hear your news about sharpening in DPP ... set to 0 ??!! Might be different with the EOS R ... your trusty source will know !!

Do not know how the EOS R performs in terms of noise ... I for myself apply luminance NR not at all up to ISO 3200 with the EOS 1Dx II in DPP . If the image is correctly exposed ( ETTR) !!!! If I need to use luminance NR I do that in PS with Neat Image .

Just one tip ... do not follow blindly other folks tutorials , guides or suggestions !!!!! Just take them , work with them and find your own route .... there are so many ways to get to the finish .

Andreas thanks again for your help. Yes, you are correct, I used my normal minimum sharpening settings of 100, .5 for smart sharpen in PS and it needs to be tweaked if I decide to change to 0 in DPP. So, I tried DPP set to 0 and added to smart sharpen 100, .6 in my next post. Thanks again for the help.
