    Default Northern Cardinal from 2017

Still revisiting older frames form 2017. I joined this board in Feb 2018, so here's one that's new to you!

This was a setup from Arizona. The 'perch' was a log on the ground (seed in holes).

Woulda gone with f/7.1 or 8 instead of 5.6 to get more DOF on the tail if I knew then what I know now.

Canon 400mm f/4 IS DO II on EOS 7D2
    1/3200 at f/5.6, ISO 800
Processed in LR CC. Cloned out a few particularly visible stray seeds.

    Dorian:

Great display of the crest, reds are well exposed, so easy to smoke the red channel. Interesting perch.
Just for personal taste, I might reduce the exposure a bit, but that is so dependent on the viewers monitor settings.

    Cheers

Whoa! My eyes have been burned! Too bright and a little overdone for my taste. The pose and detail in the head is top notch.

The reds look perfect with plenty of detail for me. I just calibrated my monitor and as already mentioned your monitor and the specific calibration means these images are really being viewed uniquely by each individual. Love the perch and don't miss the tail details. Too focused on the eye/crest and the slightly opened beak with food. TFS

Don't worry my eyes are not burned. Nice to see the cardinal in a desert setting. I usually see them in the snow. Background is great. I like the raised crest. Framing looks right on.

Hi Dorian ... what a color in this bird .

Nice hairdo and the two colors in the image are quite nice . Might burn the stump in the HL for more continuous tones ... and drop some reds in the bird , just feel you are masking some detail with the saturation .

    Nicely done , TFS Andreas

Those Arizona Cardinals are really brilliant red; ours in New Jersey are nearing their peak but not as red as the ones in Arizona. So the reds look good to me. I would, however, drop the exposure on the perch just a tad. Great alert pose.

I don't think this is that bright? I would dial it down just a tad but the reds look perfect to me.
Bird not parallel to the camera is too bad, I think you need the whole bird sharp for this kind of image.

sweet shot Dorian, agree the perch is a bit too hot and should be tames. nice reds and a good HA. might add a touch more sharpening to the head
