Interesting head angle Ken; I kind of like it. You see enough of the eye to pull it off. The sun really highlights the lilac breast nicely. I would probably go with a vertical crop here, adding some more canvas to the bottom and possibly the top too. Please include tech specs for your photos. Thanks for posting.

    Sorry I forgot the specs
    100-400mm at 400, F9 (soft lens), 1/200, ISO 200.
I will see what adding some canvas does.

Beautiful capture Ken of one of Africas most beautiful birds. I agree with Doug's suggestion of adding more canvas on top and bottom, A vertical crop would be nice. I was wondering if you had moved a tad to the left if it would have brought in more light on the back and tail feathers. Your exposure and colors are perfect and a killer Bg. Thanks for sharing this beautiful capture with us Ken

Here is quick repost adding at top and bottom, apart from my technique, I think it looks better with more space. Allthough I cannot remember clearly we were probably sharing a vehicle with others, and were probably lucky to get this shot, that is why we now always try to get a private vehicle and a good guide.

Ken I prefer the repost. As for the dark tail feathers perhaps a touch of fill flash may also have helped.

Ken, the repost has some cloning (?) marks that the original does not - I'd look into fixing those those. I personally would prefer the bird's head not cocked up at such a high angle...to me it feels like a variation on the HAP "law" ;-)

I really like the leaves on the perch, very cool.
