This was the world's tamest Mourning Dove (many times rather flighty over here), allowing many opportunities and fearless of approach up to MFD. A beautiful morning after a snowy night a couple of weeks back, with thick wet snow clinging to all branches. The temperature rose high and fast enough to melt it all away after an hour or so after I arrived. Another reason to get up early!
Canon 7DII + 500mm f/4 II, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/640s., f/5.6, ISO 800, natural light, handheld, FF.
Nice look back pose, like the slightly ruffled feathers, snow. Did you have a chance to try smaller f/stops with this cooperative subject for a bit more DOF? Works well as is, just curious.
Randy, I did, but thought this one was best comprise from that distance (BG-wise anyhow). I did take some images from much farther out for "small in the frame" versions, and that did the trick in getting the tail fully sharp.
