    Default Indian Rhino Portait !

Hello everyone. Thank you for all your comments and suggestions to my previous post, as always much appreciated.

The forum seems very quite amidst the pandemic , and understandably it is a matter of concern but lets keep our selves occupied and take some inspiration from such animals like Rhinos who are already fighting for their survival.

This image was made under very low lighting conditions as the sun was almost down and the thick canopy of trees was not helping either by blocking whatever little light which was available at that time. I had to pump up that iso and ETTR to make the most of the high iso capabilities of the 1DX II.

I really loved those ear tufts .

DPP 4.12, PSCC 2020, WB, Curves, selective colour, vib/sat, slightly added canvas at the base , cropped from top and rhs , NR ( BKG), Sharpening.

Canon 1DX MK II , Canon 500mm f4 IS II , Bean Bag.

    ss 1/250, f/5.6, ISO 16,000.

Looking forward for all your comments and suggestions, be it of any nature.

    Haseeb.

Well said Haseeb, more interaction and input would be great, however I know Gabriela currently has big issues with power & internet capabilities, but interesting to see some folk who constantly look and never venture further and to those I ask why not, please come and join in...

Great to see you building your confidence in hi ISO Haseeb and using ETTR, its so easy, but key. Being side on has helped and I think the techs were about right without pushing further. I might add a sliver more on the RHS its a tad tight to the stump IMHO. Noise looks well controlled, but again ETTR helps, albeit on the laptop. The ear tuffs give the appearance of a ring of fire.

I have had a look twice Haseeb and I think you have done a remarkable job. Noise is very well controlled and the image has good detail.
For my personal taste I feel it is a little bright and pale, I have an alternative version for your consideration:

Those ears sure are nice. Image quality looks great for the ISO. Was the rhino chewing on that stump?

Not sure who else posts on here except for the usual five or six of us. Once in awhile somebody from avian may post something.

Thank you Steve, Jon and John , as always much appreciated.

@ Steve -- ETTR really helps in controlling that noise element and also bringing back the details, works like a charm.

@ Jon -- Thanks for the RP, a bit dark for my liking and that stump is looking a bit odd too. Having said that, my first output was something on similar lines as your RP but it appeared a bit dark to me hence I pushed things further on brighter side.

@ John -- The Rhino was just sniffing the stump .

Postings have dwindled down these days , but because of the social distancing most of us are at home and I feel postings can be significantly more during this time.

Indeed Haseeb, it would also be good if those folk who just lurk join in too.

HI Haseeb, a lovely close up portrait of the IOHR. Good use of that high ISO and good work in the field with ETTR. Nicely processed too. Well done.

Such a lovely portrait, Haseeb! Love the (cheeky) pose and HA, open eye, ear tufts, and of course horn... and mouth too.

Frame is well balanced and aesthetically pleasing. Great background, colours look good too.

You could use some burn and dodge ( well, more burn than dodge ...) to sculpt that lovely horn and create more definition, or a more dramatic effect, up to you how far you want to take it.

I certainly enjoyed this, very well seen and taken

    Kind regards,
    Gabriela Plesea

Hi Haseeb ... you kindly asked me , so here you go .
Lovely tight portrait of the rhino , very nice to see that you could get so close and get the perfect eye level shot .
Well handled high iso .... you seem to understand the ETTR thingy quite well and the handling of the files .

I am not too fuzzed about the color and tonal representation .... of your OP ... but this is just personal thing , so very subjective !!!

To illustrate my view ... my RP . Not saying it is perfect just quickly done and rough .

    TFS Andreas

Thank you Andreas -- Yes, when comparing side by side one can definitely make the difference, your version has some more detailing and texture, especially the horn.
