I like how the white to black contrast. the image is a tad dark and lacking in sharpness, a bit more sharpening might help, some of the whites appear flat with no details... finally wish the beak was all red (tip is blackened or muddy?)

Hi Arash and thanks for the valued comments. The image reflects the light at the time. The sun had just fully set. In fact, the catch light is the western sky after glow. The focus point was right on the cheek/eye and looks very sharp to me. I ran minimal sharpening for web since the raw file at full resolution was sharp. With all those creases around the eye a perfectly sharp image would look crunchy if more sharpening applied. The beak colors (dark rich red with black) are the breeding colors. Thanks again for your valued inputs.

Hi David, I am not talking about the light but the brightness of the image that has not been corrected for viewing on the screen.

the image is not tack sharp to my eye for a head shot, maybe it's just me.... A sharp image does not have to be overshared with halo artifacts of course, there is a fine line..... I have seen most of your images lack critical quality and sharpness, could be from your camera, lens, processing or all of these combines. This if you want honest feed back. If in doubt, ask Artie :)

Love the black/white and red in the color palette.
Yes to a bit more sharpening and 1/3 increase in the exposure.
Love the hint of sky in the eye,
    Gail

Agree with the other comments here. Love the white bird against that dark background.

I think Arash makes some good points about the brightness and details. Furthermore I can see some color noice/artifacts on both the bird and the bill.
Other than that I think it is anorther artistic image with a beautiful contrast between the three colors white, black and red. Great pose and well exposed.
