Now that I see this posted I think I have oversharpened it . The 1 DX 3 files are really sharp straight out of the camera.

Not oversharp at all, the lichen is just a tad bright so appears oversharp.
The bird looks really nice, detail on the beak is awesome. Nice HA.
Your equipment combo seems first rate!

Love the pose, BG, and perch. Maybe a little oversharpened, but I don't think I would have noticed / said anything if you didn't point it out. Love the color scheme here. Exposure looks great. New camera seems to be working out great. TFS

Hi Gail .... lovely frame , love the colors !!

Overall the contrast slightly overdone , masking out some detail . Slightly !!!! not much .
And it is over sharpened ... !!!! Easy to see the white fringing ( haloing) at the edges of the feathers , and you have some fine grain in parts of the feathers .
Wonder what you used for sharpening in DPP ?

Gail my immediate impression was that the colours are compressed, I too feel pretty sure the contrast is too high. What capture settings have you got in camera?

Got nothing to do with the processing , as at this stage ; only DPP can handle the MK III files and there you can set things to what ever you like .
And even when using ACR it does not really matter , as Mr Adobe has its own interpretation of colour and contrast for each camera model , does not matter what you have dialled in !!!!

Hi Gail, lovely angled pose with just the right HA. I like the earthy colours of the Grosbeak, and the yellows really pop against your darker BG. Yes, the finer feathers are a touch over sharpened. Its difficult on any subject that have this finer plumage to get the sharpening spot on. You have done well enough.

Would love to get a frame of one of these guys. Looks very nice to me. Like the framing and the diaganol perch. The slight frost on the perch is another plus. Nice background.

This is a bird I rarely see but have always wanted to photograph, so I am really envious of this fine frame! Frosty perch is amazing, and the exposure and details look great across the bird. Perfect frame placement. Everything a set-up shot should be!

Perfectly perched with great eye contact. Like the frosty perch as well. Beautiful complimentary background. Don't think you've over sharpened at all.

A beautiful shot of a bird I would love to photograph. Great pose, and I love the hint of frost and the complimentary backround colors. To my eye only a few small spots seem slightly oversharpened: a few fine feather fringes and the frosty perch. Easily fixed IMO by use of a low opacity Eraser selectively on the sharpening layer.
