    Hi all,

A Southern Yellow-billed Hornbill taken in Kruger National Park July of last year -- finally getting around to processing more images. Taken in the AM, in post small crop, really minor edits, nothing added or cloned.

    Camera: Nikon D500
    Lens: 500mm f/4 + 1.4 TC
    Specs: 1/1250 f/6.3 ISO 800

Thanks for looking and commenting on prior posts!

    Hi Alex,

This is a really nice frame. I love the HA, the slightly open beak, and the mound. Colors and details look great. I might add a touch of contrast using a curves adjustment layer as I feel this image needs just a bit more pop. If you're inclined to do a bit of cloning, I'd suggest removing the white spot on the perch to the right of the bird's tail as it does draw my eye slightly. Relatively minor issue though in an overall very strong shot. TFS and looking forward to more from the trip!

Really nice frame Alex, what a unique and striking bird. Nice even lighting and solid details captured here, I agree on the HA and the slightly open beak. Have you tried a vertical crop on this?

Lovely shot I like the exposure and colours in the bird.
If you felt inclined a slight adjustment to the bill would reveal more detail and I would definitely lower the brightness or reduce the exposure on the clay mound, it would have to be much but the bird would then look rinky tinky!

Hi Alex, what a great open shot of a Hornbill in the open - especially for Kruger where they are normally busy in trees. Being July, you were shooting in nice soft light, and it shows up in the image. Good HA, and the colours are spot on. I cant ever remember seeing a Hornbill perched on a termite mound.

Neat looking bird. Love the bill and that long tail. Nice framing. The dirt mound perch is another plus in my book.

Perfect head turn and DFC light...
I think a 4X5 portrait crop would work well.

This is a really unique shot! The perch is super interesting and the pink-infused blue background is very pretty. Details look good across the bird, and I like the feet peeking out as well. Head angle and bill view are perfect! Very nicely done.

Thanks all, some good suggestions that I'll look at. This one sat in my to-process file for a while so glad to finally have gotten to it and shared it. Thanks again,
