These guys are rare where I am, so when one was reported in a local forested park I went out to see if I could find it. When I got to the general area I put on the audio, not as a setup, but as a means to see if it was around. Well, after no more than a few seconds it popped up from under a nearby brush pile and landed on this broken-off stump too close to me. I backed up as it sang away for a few moments.

Canon 7DII + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4TC III, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/320s., f/5.6, ISO 1600, natural light, handheld, FF, a faint OOF branch removed from the BG at right.

Nice pose and background. Glad the bird made an appearance for you. Killer background as well.

Lovely calling pose and peachy BGG Dan. I am fortunate to have one to two pair in my yard and i enjoy them throughout the year. They are so inquisitive and not very timid. ILove their lyrical calls and the louder the better! You did well here and a pleasure to view.

Pretty much perfect pose and perch. Great to have this one calling. Bird looks very nice and BG matches well. I'm looking forward to (hopefully) photographing a pair in my parent's yard at some point this summer. TFS

This is quite stunning, Dan! The calling pose, color scheme, and perch are really special. Details look great and so does the BG. I wish for a hair more DOF but I understand that you didn't have a lot of light to work with. I see a few artifacts on the LHS (possibly from cloning or compression?) which I'd clean up, but this is gorgeous! TFS

Lovely shot Dan, details and colours are very pleasing. It is always good to see a behavioral image. I am glad the image is sharp I would have guessed 1/320 sec was borderline for a wren singing.
I like the image as presented but my personal preference would be to pull the highlights down a little, I feel the image has more presence.

Hi Dan, lovely singing pose for the monthly theme. The feather really shows up, and I'm impressed with the sharpness of the head and beak at your slow ss. Gotta love the colour of the BG too.

Thanks man! I meant I removed a branch at LEFT, not right...and what a sloppy job at that too. I must have been tired, that's my excuse
