    Default Common Merganser and flounder

My first posted 1 DX3 image. So far I am very happy with improved AF and the FPS rate is crazy good with unlimited buffer thanks to the CF express cards. I can shoot 1000 RAW images before the buffer fills up (not that I would ever have a reason to do so!). Still early days but so far, so good.
My favorite winter open water area had been frozen over until 3 days ago. Within 5 minutes of setting up and getting under my quik camo sheet, this little lady caught a flounder and hoped up onto the ice to eat it directly in front of me!
    Cloudy day.
    This is almost 80% FF.
Nothing added or cloned but I did dodge a faint line in the BG that ran across the image. Increased exposure by half a stop.
ISO 800 (should have been at ISO 1600 because of dark gloomy day) SS 1/2000 F 6.3

Very exciting, nice shot, and I like the reflected light on the fish.
I have a 1DXIII on order but they arrive a bit later here in OZ.

Great action image, nice shooting angle, colors, impeccable timing of capture.

Hi Gail, this is real gem of a capture. The angled pose couldnt be better, and excellent timing to have the fish flapping between the beak of the Merganser. Your low perspective works well, and I can feel the Merganser 'slipping' all over the ice. Sharpness and exposure spot on through out the image. Well captured.

Have fun with your new toy too.

Wow this is really something Gail. Love the perfect setting and the bird stands out so well. Pose and details look great. And then of course the prey item! Water coming off the fish adds. This is all in all a very very nice image, no nits from me here. TFS, look forward to more from the new kit.

I bet it was a great feeling, going out with the new camera, and this guy comes along to put the icing on the cake. Great detail on the bird and what a great pose..Even the HA on the fish is good Well done Gail...I was photographing Red-breasted Merganser yesterday. 2 males and 1 female going through the whole courtship display. Unfortunately where they were was a wee bit too far even at 800mm. Nice to see though.

What great action in this capture, Gail. Love how she's digging with her sharp nails into the ice and the flounder flip is perfectly caught. I'm sure it was fun capturing this image with the new gear.

Wonderful action, great POV, colors and details. Nice of her to perform right in front of you. Only nit is that I would brighten the eyes of merg and fish. Congrats on the new toy.

Whoa! What a merganser frame. Alot to love here. Nice to have the bill open and the fish being caught. The mark three sounds great. Hope you enjoy using it.

The ice and the flounder make this an incredibly unique image, one I'd love to have in my own collection. Exposure, detail, and color are all spot-on, and feet are a great bonus as we hardly ever see them on any duck let along this
    species.

Though I'm not in the market for any new gear at this unemployed moment, I'm curious how the DX2 compares to the DX2. I know you jumped 1 > 3, so I'll have to wait for a more direct comparison outside whatever thoughts
    you offer!

Congrats again on your new "body!" May many miles and many birds cross paths. Terrific interest here and the stop action of a flipped flounder is fab... Setting is wonderful, nice control of the whites even if you were under rather than over and blown.

Very dynamic and entertaining image. Even the flounder seems to be having fun. Or maybe not. I love the texture on the ice. Congrats on the new camera body - here's to many successful outings with it!
