Hi folks .... very quiet and nobody wants to break my B&W toning fever ... LOL .

So here you go another one ...

Lioness taken in South Luangwa NP of Zambia in late morning , light was already somehow harsh but this lady stayed already in the shadows of some tiny trees.
I liked her pose and got her attention ... by my camera shutter .

    Canon EOS 1Dx
    EF 500 IS L II + 1,4 TC III
    Beanbag

F 6,3 ; Iso 2500 ; 1/1600 sec ; man exp and auto iso , shot ETTR ; a bit more DOF would not have hurt the image though

Processed with DPP 4 and PSCC 2020 ; Quadtone conversion and further edits in PS for i.e. vignette and clean up . ; cropped for comp

Thanks for watching and commenting to my previous experiment ... LOL .

    Cheers Andreas

It certainly got my attention, I like the pose with the chin resting on the paw. I like the appearance but I am thinking to myself that would look great as a colour image.

    Hello Andreas,

She is beautiful, your lioness. Mesmerising eyes and such pretty pose, love the POV. Talking about eyes, I know the colour varies but the irises of this lioness look very orange - very unusual! The pupil is pale, I expected it to be more black.

Don't mind the DoF, subject is sharp from nose to eyes and it's the eyes that matter Mmmmm....Somehow I think I like the colour version more. The toned version might have more impact but looks a tad coarse in comparison with the colour version.

Glad you shared this, I am enjoying your experiments with toned images. Sorry for late comments, saw this last night and was about to post a reply when electricity went Tomorrow we have no power the whole day, Eskom is doing maintenance.

Enjoy the rest of the evening, Andreas!

    Kind regards,
    Gabriela Plesea

Hi Gabriela ... thanks for your comment .
Eye is as shot , only added a bit punch .

To me the color version is boring .... just another lion image with a nice pose and good eye contact .

The toned image is so powerful IMHO ... way more impact , but not everyones taste . For sure it is more coarse due to the tonal pushing .... but as you should , i wanted the effect .

    Just artsy stuff ....

    Cheers Andreas

Sure, I believe you Boetie, like I said the colour of the eyes varies. Also depends on the light. And age. And sometimes the photographer too

Toned version is indeed powerful. But I am drawn to the colour one a bit more. Makes me think of a certain lioness

Artsy stuff indeed, very well done on all those images you've been sharing lately!

Hope you have a super week-end,

Thank you Boetie, I like lionesses in any form and shape

One really needs a wide tonal range, for B/W and Toned images - maybe that is why you were not happy with the Waterbuck. But you'll find something soon, I know it

    Sleep well, and chat soon!

The buck had more tonal range than the lioness .....with less clutter around it

In 2 min a leopard is coming around the corner .... but i was lazy and it is not ideal

Much prefer the color version of this one but, i'm more of a color guy. I like the framing here and the eye contact.

Hi Andreas -- As an artist you have the liberty to play with your work , and the OP is exactly what it is, powerful and at the same time creatively done. I liked the coarse tones and textures and the eye contact looks captivating. Liked that version of yours.

While the colour version might be an usual lion image but it is a quality image nonetheless, so I am keeping my feet in boot the boats , nicely done.

    TFS !

I like the pose very much Andreas, but the choice of toning is too heavy and not sympathetic I feel, it needs to be lighter in it's 'touch'.
