    Hi all ...
not being a really feather photog , from time to time i go to a local town lake to get not rusty . Or if i try out new kit .
This is from 2015 ... quite " old" though .

    Canon EOS 1Dx
    EF 500 IS L II + 2x TC III
    Tripod

F 8 ; Iso 2500; 1/1600 sec ; man exp and auto iso ( with hindsight at F9 would have been better and a slightly faster SS )

Processed with DPP 4 and PSCC 2020 , cropped for comp to 65 % of FF

Thanks for looking and leaving comment

    Cheers Andreas

Hi Andreas, I remember you previously posted images of ducks, they were pretty darned good too. This one I feel is not quite up to your usual high standard. I don't think the light on the wet feathers helped but the head looks a little glarey, if there is such a word. I think the water or at any rate the dampness of the head has rendered the detail around the head and eye a little less that I would have expected base on your previous images.

Hi Andreas, nice low angle, and I like the small bow wave in front of the little guy. As you know, we all like space to swim/fly into, but in this, you are showing the rippled wake behind the Grebe, so it works well too. I droplet below the beak adds interest.

Nice low angle and sweet light. The framing is nice with the inclusion on the ripples in the water on the right.

Thanks folks for your kind comments .

Stu - framing was made to keep the ripples in the water , you are right

Jon - will take a look about your reservations regarding sharpness .

I like try water drop dripping from the beak but the IQ is a lacking here, doesn't look sharp to me. I would put the grebe a bit to the right and I wish the sun was right behind you as opposed to coming at an angle. calm water was nice

Thanks Arash you are right about lacking sharpness in the head ... FP point was on the side of the body .
Framing is about right to me .... and i can wish for better angle of light ... but it wasn't , so i take the shots what mother nature offers me .

Here is a slight correction of the sharpening ... to overcome the softness .
Might work slightly better .... for sure not ideal .

I'm undecided on the composition as I would surely prefer more room top and left, but I like everything else (plus the sharpening on the repost). I love the ripples in front of the grebe and the beautiful light.

Thanks Daniel for your reply ... i have more room on LHS , but for me it is the combo of bird and ripples in the back . And if i go looser in crop ... i go smaller in the frame , which i do not want .

    Cheers Andreas
