Hey Dorian, looks like one of Artie's from La Jolla. Nice colors, detail and background. Love the blue ocean there. Thank you for sharing.

Beautiful Image. I love the colors

I was in La Jolla couple of days back. I did not get any pelican shots. (I was on the cliff on two mornings).
It was mainly birding trip for my wife.
I hope to come to California, Oregon States lot of times this year to photograph birds and other subjects (Flowers)

sweet shot Dorian, love those classic colors and details, nailed it.

As you noted these images can be made with any camera...even a $250 15-year old 10 mega pixel Digital Rebel can get more or less an identical image of this pelican when compared to a brand new 20K pro FF attached to a 600 f/4 lens of any brand. It's a beautiful image for sure. But not one that is suitable for raving about gear :D.... these days a Samsung S20 phone can take a tack sharp and detailed head shot of a pelican, seagull, crow etc. at point blank...such a waste of $$$ to buy pro gear if one is only after these kinds of shots.

    cheers

Hi Dorian ... love it . Technically very well done . Love the colors .

Regarding Arash´s thoughts ... well i think , web images never show the ability of gear in terms of IQ . One need to look at the original file and even more when being printed large .
In general it is mostly operator errors during capture and not ideal PP techniques if the shown IQ is not that great .
    Just my 2 cents .

As i don´t think my old 10D can keep up with my 1Dx II at any stage .... whether during shooting nor with the IQ .

Yah, I'd have a really hard time going back to my original Rebel XT even if only for static portraits - although yes those images from way back them look very good on the web. Great portrait in sweet light. Well-balanced comp.

You are correct, my original comment made a bit tongue-in-cheek as I agree point-blank static shots are mostly useless as gear tests.

Sweet portrait in nice light. Love the composition. Nice detail and pose. Might be tempted to try to get a little bit more out of the darkest parts of the neck, but I've actually never seen this bird, so I don't know how they look really. Would love to photograph some of these CA birds at some point. TFS
