    Default Royal Tern

Here's one from La Jolla last week while I was visiting my father-in-law in nearby Riverside County.

A tiny touch more head turn would be nice, but I think that's relatively minor against color, clarity, etc.

I'd never had a chance to get this species in-flight prior to this. We don't have them in the Bay Area.

Love the dorsal flight frames like this. Nice framing and really digging that blue water background. I think the head angle is fine.

I see what you mean about the head angle but it's not so bad. You still get a 9.8 rather than a 10 though . Awesome details, I especially enjoy the feathers on the near wing. Sharp throughout, and great colours.

    A really gorgeous frame.
Tack sharp with great details. Exposure spot on and I love that beautiful Pacific Ocean blue.
    Love the fanned tail!

    Hi Dorian,

I like this image and as the guru of the flight shots :D I disagree a head turn would meaningfully improve this shot. when the bird isn't flying towards it looks better this way, of course as long as it's not turned away. that's my opinion :)

    cheers

Great image, and one of the best poses to show off a Tern. Techs are spot on.

Hi Dorian, nicely processed image. I love the color of the water/background, compliments the tern well. Your comment regarding a head turn noted, I do think it would be a better image with a slight head turn towards the viewer. Thank you for sharing.

    Another beauty from you Dorian!
Lovely banking pose, stunning background with some nice pattern from the waves and good exposure.
In this case I think the head angle works very well, there is enough to engage in some eye contact.

Terrific flight pose, gorgeous blue background. Nice detail. No nits from me. (Not being a stickler for that last fraction of a degree of head angle, I find this almost perfect -- he's focused on where he's going.)

Hi Dorian, great show of the full wingspan, and nice and sharp throughout the Tern. I like the fanned tail too. The Tern pops so well against your water BG. Well captured.
