You will have to explain what the wall of shame is !
    Now back to the image:
This is the best image you have posted. The IQ, exposure, POV and slight head turn are superb.
    The water is perfect.
Well done John- no nits from me!

I am envious of this frame as I have been pursuing this species for years without success. I see them all the time - I saw 700+ on SF Bay this afternoon - but I've never
had one even remotely in photo range. It's one of the biggest holes in my extensive waterfowl collection.

I agree with Gail that this is the single best frame you've posted. The angle, lighting, color, and detail are absolutely perfect. I would move him up in the frame just a bit as the top feel a bit empty (and the blurred foreground water is great).
I might also knock the highlights down a touch to tone down the lightest bits against the black neck. But that's relatively minor. I would love to get something similar.

Congratulations on this wonderful frame of what I understand to be a difficult species!
I agree on all the positivies mentioned above. Lightning, details and angle are really good.
Just because this shot has so much potential and you might have another even better in this series I want to mention a few thing that bothered me. First I agree that the comp could benefit by following Dorians suggestions and also moving the bird slightly to the right. I'm always a bit critical against placing the bird in dead center. Secondly, and my main concern, is that the tail and back is OOF. I think you would have gotten a better reslut with a bit more DOF here, no reason for 4.0 in these conditions. You might have a frame when the bird is more paralell to the camera and the whole bird is sharp? Finally I would try to bring out more detail from the highlights with NIK or by adding a few points of black.
Again, just mentioning these points because the photo is so good that it is worth to lift it to perfection.

Wow, John, I am jealous of this too. Great colours, my type of low angle. As much as I liked your close-up earlier, this one takes the cake. I too am curious about the "wall of shame".

Hi John, love the low perspective, and the light and sharp detail shows up the Canvasback very well. Gotta love that water too. Congrats on a fine image.
