    Default Loggerhead Shrike

Here's one from Riverside County in SoCal where my wife and I spent last week visiting my father-in-law.

Not a ton of action, but I'm sold on the detail and background. The BG was created by positioning my car-blind
in such a way to have the morning marsh directly behind the subject.

I would have liked a bit more DOF across the perch; I closed down to f/7.1 a second after this frame but the
bird didn't acknowledge me again despite much whistling and clicking on my part.

Hey Dorian, chubby little shrike, ours here seem slimmer. Techs as always spot on, I noted your comment regarding the perch (still nice). The background appears very much like the pastures here when used as a background from the car. Thank you for sharing.

Everything looks spot on. Nice light, pose and perch. Really digging that background. Real nice how that green fades.

Really, really nice portrait of a very cool species!
I haven't got a singel frame of the European variant.
I like the perch, the double-colored background and the light. I see a lot of detail and think it is beautifully exposed. My one nit would be the comp wich I find a little awkward.
I get the choice to frame the bird a bit higher in the frame as it shows of the perch and more of the green but I would place the bird just a tiny bit lower and, mainly, a bit more off center to the left.

Pretty cool. The small bit of oof perch at the bottom is certainly forgivable. Good techs, great BG, could have done better on the post-image techs-adjusted pishing I suppose Lol.

10/10 for this frame, great light, perfect angles on the bird, killer BG and I like the fall off in the focus - no need for a smaller f-stop in my book

sweet shot of Mike the Shrike! love the BG. this guy is skittish and looks like you guys pulled in real close. If mine I'd tone down the highlights a bit where it seems blown
