Nice detail Jon, but I find it a bit dark, a third of a stop helps??? You could try a square crop, but I would also address some of the brighter blades in the BKG.

Jon:
I like the curved perch, it mirrors the curve of the birds body, the intense stare out of frame, am OK with the brightness, but get Steve's point. I agree that this could be cropped several ways. Just as a start I would do a horizontal crop, with the top just below the bottom of the yellow reed in the background. I think that plays up the strong gaze to the left. I do like the depth you have in the image as cropped, but keep finding my eye wandering to the dark area on the upper edge, wondering what is out there? Odd how it so strongly pulls the eye sometimes.
My first reaction to all the white wash on the perch was to consider removing it, but it def. tells the story of about the spot, and am fine with it.
Cheers

Thanks Randy, I appreciate the detailed response. Deciding on a crop was awkward, the image is heavily cropped, a short distance to the left of the bird there was a barge bough and yet another beyond that. I am conscious that noise is is very much exemplified in Olympus files when cropped. Working on it, finding better/different ways of processing to minimise the noise.....I was spoilt with the Canon full frame noise no longer became an issue.
Neat looking eagle. Like the pose and that curved perch. Yes to raising the exposure a little.
