Nice moment, Giovanni. I quite like this blast-off pose. It is enhanced by the puff of snow. I like the small-in-frame composition. The treeline in the background adds a lot of depth to the image. I can see a few issues with the image as presented, and I've attached a re-edit that kind of covers most of those issues.

    1) I think the image is too warm. I set the WB on the owl to make it cooler and more natural-looking. I also brightened the image globally, and dodged the bird's face further.

    2) I wonder if this image is a large crop? The owl is lacking some fine feather detail as presented and looks crunchy. I can also see a halo around the snow at the bottom of the frame.

    3) Finally, could you share the RAW processor that you used to edit this image? I ask this because I can see a rectangular pattern throughout the frame. This is a software artifact as explained in the thread that Arash has pinned (Fiery Throated Hummingbirds) caused by an improper RAW processor and/or filters.

A revisit in processing could certainly improve this IMO. I really like the action, composition and the great HA. TFS and I'm sure you'll get even better feedback from the others

Nice action capture. I agree the white balance was way off; the original looked like it an odd sepia cast. Aditya's repost looks much better.

The pose is nice, but the shadowed fast limits the connection with the subject. The swirling snow below is a nice touch.

I also see the square grid behind the bird as well.

I thought the original had some type of filter applied. Like the ones you see on Instagram and Facebook. Thought maybe thats what you were going for. Love the falling snow in the second one.

Giovanni sent me the RAW file and I processed it using Capture One. The bird is tack sharp and the noise level is quite low. I increased the brightness and dropped the highlights. I'm not too familiar with how snow looks, and I'm not sure how bright it should be or how much detail should be visible, so I went for a softer feel to complement the rest of the image. I also brightened the eyes. This is a fairly heavy crop (~40% of FF).
