Here is an image of a Pied Avocet taken during my recent trip to Cape Town. This was captured at the sewerage works and believe me, the air was clean. Taken early morning.

Stu nice to see you posting. Lovely frame of this avocet. Nice pose and light. Killer background as well. Great view of that near wing.

Sharp, perfectly exposed, great that you got the red eye, I like the image design and the BKGR, and I love shorebirds.

Glad to see you back Stu! What a return, super shot trademark Stu background! My only slight reservation is that some of the black feathers are very dense, it leaves me wondering id there is a little missing detail therein?

Beautiful image! Great background, and the flight pose is appealing. I see the same thing as Jon in regards to the blacks, but everything else is top-notch.

Thanks a stack for the feedback everyone. I really tried to squeeze more detail out the blacks.

Awesome action, and that direct stare from the red eye makes the image! Graded BG is very nice, and exposure and details across the bird are excellent. More detail in the blacks would be ideal, but the strong contrast looks great as is.

Hi Stu, great to see you back, hopefully this isn't a fleeting presence.

Lovely opening image, there is a fraction more you can pull out on the lower wing which adds a fraction more detail and has no effect on any contrast in the rich blacks of the plumage. Hope to see more as you have some real 'corkers'.

    All the best bud.
