What an interesting bird! Love the open beak and the view of the tongue. Wish the lighting and perch were better. The background's really smooth, but I wish it weren't so drab - nothing you could've done about it though. Very cool shot nonetheless!

sweet frame Jon, nice closeup details + the open bill. I am with Aditya re. the perch and light angle, in particular the broken part of the perch draws my eyes the stuff in the LLC a bit sistracing

Pretty sweet frame of this king fisher. Nice to have that big bill open. Background is pretty nice as well.

Very nice Jon...I like the greenery around the bottom. Nice pose on the bird with good control on the blacks/whites. BG shows the bird well.

Love the big bills on these KFs. Good pose and exposure. To my eye, or taste, the light seems reasonably muted and the perch appropriately riverine. I might have brushed out the light patch in the bg just off the bird's lower back.

Hi Jon, an excited Pied, as he has his beak open with the visible tongue. Nicely posed against a clean BG. New kit ?
