Hi folks ... here is one image from 2018 , taken in Nxai Pan ( Botswana ) .
It was sooo dry and only that one artificial waterhole was the only water source for miles , so all animals must come there sooner or later . So did this lion pride ....
Image taken one late morning .... the light was harsh and it was very hot .
The two lions in front were the first making their way into a shadowy area , just right behind our car .
I like the overview of the scene with the wildebeest in the back .
Canon EOS 1Dx II
EF 500 IS L II + 1,4 TC
Bean bag
F 8 ; Iso 800 ; 1/2500 sec ; man exp and auto iso
Processed with DPP 4 and PSCC 2020 ; slightly cropped for comp ; sadly no more to the LHS ........ did not recognised the cut off lion
Thanks for watching and commenting to my previous posting .
Hi Andreas, the image does convey the heat and dust very nicely. The lions look exhausted. I like the presentation with the OOF animals not bothering me much. Nice natural looking colours.
My immediate reaction was the same as Sanjeeve's, the image conveys the situation and location beautifully. The lion on the left was cut off but the image s all about the front two so it doesn't bother me. My only slight reservation is the almost missing pupil on the left eye of the left lion, no doubt due to intense light.
Love the interaction between those two lionesses, as well as presence of the pride relaxing about. Let us not forget the wildebeest in the BG, well seen and captured, Boetie!
Composition would had been perfect had you included the paws of the character on the LHS. Harsh light indeed but you exposed well and very nice PP work too. Colours/tonality work for me, all natural and so consistent with lighting conditions.
Just one small thing, to me the eyes of the lioness on the LHS of the image look a bit 'bright' Boetie. But I must say I find the scene so captivating, just cannot take my eyes off the computer screen. Beautiful sighting, wish I was there too
Hi Andreas, the image tells a story and the light coveys how harsh life can be in the midday heat. Techs & framing look good, my only slight reservation is the head looking towards the WB on the LHS. Was this shot with or without D+?
Andreas, not a big deal really - the eye, and as you can see it's only me who pointed that out...Just looks a bit 'tweaked' to me, as if you raised exposure and added gamma or something to make it 'pop' more.
Obviously if you do nothing some of us will complain that the eyes are half closed, LOL. You can never please everyone
Have a good evening and sleep well Boetie. I am off to the feathers, hope to dream of lions...
Like the depth to this one. Nice to see animals from the front to the back. The light is harsh but you handled it very well. Like the pose and moment on the two front lions.
Hi Andreas -- Looks very harsh conditions , and the light isnt that god either but again you produce some fine images even under such lighting conditions. I particularly liked the whole scene , showcasing how animals circle around the water. There is no effect of heat haze and as a result details are quite good. liked the bonding pose as well.
