Just when you thought you had seen the last gannet from the recent trip to Bonaventure Island .......!
This "macro" image of the face shows the very fleshy outer eyelid. My theory is that they need this to cushion their eyes when they hit the water at the end of the plunge. They hit the water at up to 90 km/h or 55 mph!

Hi John. I really like the composition on this one. Great colors and details. This is a very nice view of the "hinge" in the upper mandible. Very cool texture and patterns in the eye.
