I was down at my usual perch in my hometown, photographing the Eiders, when this guy emerged from the depths with his catch. I managed a few shots before he went out of my vision. It all happened within seconds, as I wasn't expecting one so close. Cropped for comp. Handheld. PS 2020.

Beautiful and what a reward with the starfish. The prey adds immensely to the shot. And nice to have some water drops behind gives that sense of movement with the far wing up. TFS

Bet you were thrilled when this fella came up with that starfish. Nice how him to give you a slight look back. The light sure was pretty nice. Love the water drops on the bird as well.

cools hot William. especially the food item. it can use a tad more sharpening and warming of the colors. I do wish the sun was behind your neck

Nice Starfish and angle. I would also sharpen this a tad...

I love the starfish and the droplets at the back. The light looks good and you've handled the exposure well, Will. I think reprocessing this image would help - it looks like you've applied just a bit too much Detail Extractor (?), and the water looks a bit too grey. I think this could be very nice with some TLC.

Perfect HA and what a catch! The starfish is perfectly placed in the bill.
The whites look a bit grey and the blacks a bit thin around the face and I wonder if this is due to PP.
The water color is typical North Atlantic winter color!

Thanks guys, appreciated....No DE applied Aditya....I actually brightened the face up Gail, for some reason it appeared darker than the rest of the white plumage. I have a few more of the same bird, I'll have a look at processing another, to see if it is any better. The sun coming from my right didn't help either.

Super cool scene. I love the catch, and the water action behind the eider too. Good low angle. I agree with the comments already offered, but looks like you got yourself a perfect file to play with.

Beautiful view of this drake, and I think the starfish is outstanding. This bird is an exposure nightmare in direct sunlight, but you look like you've handled it well. My biggest issue with this frame is the lighting as it's left you with
a shadowed/grayed face on a purely white bird. The water droplets are a nice touch though.

I really like this one with the prey item. Light angle not the best but not an image killer in my eyes. If you do process another from the shoot, maybe try dodging the whites on the face and adding a little more sharpening around the eye area.

Hi Mike....Your version is looking good. At this time of the year, it is impossible for me to get the sun behind and also the low POV, because of limited movement from the only low point where I shoot from. A white cloud day would suit me better. It's only a 5 min walk from the house, so more will come, like you I really liked the prey item, first time I have seen this.

    Thanks

    Will
