A purple sandpiper frame taken near sunset a couple of days ago. I tried something a little different (at least for me) here using a pretty slow shutter speed. In post small crop, cloned out some poo on the rock.
Love that motion in the water. Were you on sticks for this or handheld? Nice of the bird to hold that pose. Also like the drop on the bill. Hope to make it down there.
I love this, Alex. It's far different from the ordinary and must've been a challenge to get. Everything about this image is awesome, but only wish that the rock behind the bird wasn't there as it pulls my eye away from the subject. Maybe turning down the greens would help, but an excellent attempt nonetheless!
John, this was handheld, the tripod I have is one of those travel ones which is pretty good, but I'm not sure I would trust it out on the jetty. There were a number of Harlequin ducks around, but a ton of gulls on rocks so most of the ducks were a bit further out than usual.
Aditya, thanks for the kind words -- I agree on the rock behind the bird. I desaturated the greens a little but could probably go more. This was a pretty windy day so most of the birds were tucked behind rocks trying to avoid it. I'll probably try this a couple more times this winter, time permitting.
Loving the effect with the water. Nice he stayed still for you! You had some really nice light. The rock behind isn't ideal, but jetties usually prevent obtaining the lowest possible angle without risking your life. I need to get the backbone
to try more creative stuff like this.
I agree with the comments. This would have been really nice image if the bird is on the other rock with cleaner background. Nice thought about shutter speed and it helps the image.
This is really nice Alex. I love the water and I can't believe a sandpiper would stay still for an image at 1/20 sec- pretty darn good.
I like the visible foot in the water and the water droplet on the bill.
Lovely soft light.
Very well seen and executed,
Gail
