    Default African Wild dogs

Anyone who's been to Botswana will know, when flying out you need to check the runway for wildlife and as sure as eggs are eggs, we had a pack of Painted Wild Dogs playing and lazing around on the strip. But as you try to persuade them to move on, this particular pack thought that this was more of a sign for playful antics and not a more serious nudge.

Thanks to those who posted or viewed on the last posting.

Great action shot, Steve! Just how lucky you were to encounter a Wild Dog pack on arrival!

I see a few traces of blood on the subjects' coats so I take it those chaps recently made a kill...now it's time to play Particularly amused by the character on the LHS whose hind limbs are both off ground, probably trying to avid a 'nip'

Well exposed despite some strong light and nice detail everywhere including shadow areas. Colours look great. Nice framing too, techs look good and PP work as careful and sensible as always.

Never easy to capture this species 'on the run' as they tend to be all over the place - lovely work Steve, I enjoyed viewing, very much!

    Warmest regards,

Hi Steve ... you managed to capture a typical WD scene in really strong light . Well controlled lighting and you have all details visible across the range . As presented i would think ... this live view without any edits made , very realistic .

The pose of the two is nice , specially the one in front on two legs . Only thing i might change is the very bright FG sand patch .... just give the ground a bit more tonal depth .

Hi Gabriela, to get out and 'shoe' three of the dogs out of the 'Fire point' was interesting, but they behaved just like dogs, curious, but they eventually left after a few raised voices. We actually cleared it for other guests as the pack were playing hide and seek as usual with us. Using the internal 'level' just aids getting the image level as I find it a good asset. Your knowledge and observations are right on point re behaviour, there is a lot we can all learn from your experiences.

Have a lovely weekend, BTW Wol & Harvey are non existent, hunkering down due to shooting, still trying to play with the local raptor that is floating about but is being very elusive!

    Thank you Steve,

I have had quite a number of encounters with WD over the years but almost every time I ended up just observing, or waiting for that special opportunity...which never came. So wanted that perfect shot! On one occasion ( I think it was in 2017) I took a couple to Zimanga and my amazing guide and friend Hendri Venter managed to track down a pack of WD, they were quite relaxed and I thought I was going to grab some 'stunners', but no luck...One of my guests had an issue with the gear and I struggled a bit as I knew nothing about Canon, by the time we sorted things out the dogs had moved on...

And not to worry, Wol and Harvey will be back soon, maybe it's a bit cold for them to show up right now

Hope you have a super week-end, Steve, chat soon

    Warmest regards,
    Gabriela Plesea

Hi Steve -- I would have easily flunked the shot in similar conditions, but its you and how well you have managed to get the shot inspite of the harsh and tricky lighting conditions. Very nice IQ and well processed as always. Liked the moment as well, very nicely timed and exposed.

Agree with Andreas on the FG comment. Usually you get all that covered.

Hi Haseeb, the OP is 'as shot' minimal detail/tone due to the hard light and so there is minimal FG depth, therefore tweaking the FG is a 'cosmetic' adjustment.

The interaction here is neat. You handled the light very well. Framing looks right on.
