Hi folks ... we need diversity
So i thought ...have not posted a Grey Seal image for a longer time. Here you go ... image taken on Helgoland in winter 2017 .This pup went quite early into the cold north sea , normally they do stay on the beach with that thick silky fur . But this fella followed mum into the shallow surf ....just a few meters and then preferred to swim back .
    Hope you like it .

    Canon EOS 1Dx II
    EF 500 IS L II + 1,4 TC
HH lying flat in the sand

    F 8 ; Iso 10.000 ; 1/1600 sec ; man exp and auto iso

Processed with DPP 4 and PSCC 2020 ; slightly cropped and levelled to 85 % of FF ; would have preferred more DOF with hindsight ..... but would have ended up with Iso 20.000 or more

Thanks for looking and commenting to my previous posting

    Cheers Andreas

Hi Andreas, its all about those hypnotic eyes and the low POV and cuteness make this a wonderful image. Agree on the DOF but I think it works fine here.

Nice POV here Andreas, but for me the where you placed the FP is the major issue as the nose and mouth are lacking the super clarity you have in those gorgeous eyes. You can clearly see how the third/two thirds DoF works, the FP I feel needed to be further down the bridge of the nose and so f/8 probably was right.

Thanks Sanjeev and Steve for your comments , much appreciated .

Steve - you might be right with your thinking about the FP , but i am fine at this stage and the gorgeous eyes are helping to overlook the issue . In an ideal world it would have been perfect as we want it to be .

Oh it's so cute... and such a happy pose from the little chap, Andreas! You know I fall for these frames, LOL.

Superb POV and very well framed, those gorgeous eyes and the 'smile' make the image for me.

I see what Steve means regarding FP and will try remember that in the future - I tend to focus on or in-between the eyes of the subject and often forget that a little compromise might come in handy at times...

Looks really good for ISO 10.000, nice PP work as well. Print it Andreas, and hang it on your study wall - it will cheer you endlessly

    Kind regards,
    Gabriela Plesea

Hi Andreas -- Cracking portrait, your images are always a treat to watch , with lots of details and excellent IQ.

I too feel the placement of FP would have been enough for f/8 as I too have recently and infact in the past have got the sharp eyes of the subject but the muzzle a bit soft , but I always liked them ( eyes) sharp even if the muzzle is a bit blurred.

A fine image Andreas, TFS !

Nice head on view here. Framing is maybe a little tight but i'll take it. The image quality looks great for the high ISO. Nice and sharp with good detail.

Thanks Gabriela ; John and Haseeb for your kind comments .

Haseeb - thanks , a mixture of shooting and PP skills IMHO , but think i am the better editor than photographer , as mistakes can be easier corrected ...LOL.

John - i can go ever tighter IMHO for more impact into those superb eyes .

    Cheers Andreas
