Hi all , i wish all members a very HAPPY NEW YEAR .
May we all have a good and healthy 2020 with lots of good light , great subjects and hopefully the world will not go too crazy in terms climate change and the consequences that come along with it .

First posting is from my trip to Zambia ... image taken at Lower Zambesi NP in one of the drying pools . We have so many Hippos in South Luangwa .... it was impressive to see .

    Canon EOS 1DxII
    EF 500 IS L II + 1,4 TC
    HH lying flat on ground

F 8 ; Iso 2500 ; 1/2500 sec ; manual exp und auto iso ; might have gotten away with lower SS heat haze was a big problem at that location , specially when shooting on eye level .

Processed with DPP 4 and PSCC 2020 ; slight crop from bottom and RHS for levelling the image

Thanks for looking and commenting to my previous posting

    Cheers Andreas

Hi Andreas, the low POV and position/pose of the subject is right on and the draped foliage over the body is a nice touch. Techs look good along with the cropping.

Hard to say, looking on the laptop, but there is room I feel for a tad more oomph within the overall image.

Hi Andreas -- What a lovely image and a funny caption as well .

I really liked the framing and the colours. You have nicely handled the tricky highlights and the ground level perspective makes this image for me.

I might have darkened the FG for more emphasis on the Hippo and for some more depth .

Really liked this one , unusual settings and well framed.

    TFS !

Hi Andreas, funny caption and great content. The foliage has really made this image ! Wonderful low shooting angle. Nice colours and good PP work.

Hello Andreas, Happy New Year to You !!!

Wow, been trying for years to capture a "hippo salad" like this... POV is fantastic and pose really cool, not sure the subject is grumpy or sleepy but I just love the expression, LOL

Nice techs and good thinking on DoF, well exposed. FG and BG looking great and composition is perfect. Colours also look good/natural, wouldn't mind a bit more 'oomph' if you're inclined to spend more time on this frame.

Has anyone noticed those nostrils above the water, great timing Boetie

Wishing you good health and happiness as well as success in everything you do !!! ...may those special grey socks always be with you

Warmest regards from your African sister,
    Gabriela Plesea

Nice point of view here. Really digging all that vegetation, espcially on the hippo. The light looks a little harsh but you handled it very well. Nice and sharp.
